Read the "Tale of the Crawligator"
The Original Crawligators Tale was written 30 years ago after the Spring New Orleans Jazz Festival visit by Jess Nelson. (LtoR) Here is Carol and Jess Nelson and friends Leslie and Dennis Deshazer in the Big Easy, 1994!
2024 version of The Crawligator Tale:
New Orleans, LA- Not too far from the Mississippi river, an incredible discovery was made. Two scientists from BU (Bog University) in St. Mathieu Parish, were searching for DNA mutations in a nearby swamp. They were testing for frog and crustacean variations. Dr. Rosy LaRash and Dr. Willie O'Canhe made a huge discovery. They found a colony of an entirely new species that resembled Crawfish and Alligators! They were bigger than those small crustaceans, but smaller than little gators...about the size of a Po Boy! The critters were of various patterns and colors, but mostly, were pink and green. The doctors were very excited about this phenomena and launched a research team into the swamp to look for more of them. Dr.s Rosy and Willy, while testing them, also wondered how they tasted. All this exciting work made them very hungry!
"They are so elusive, said Dr. Willy, and also so very quick. We had to trick 'em to catch 'em!" The research team found that by playing loud Zydeco music in underwater speakers, they came out of hiding and swarmed like bees. They swam in circles, clickin' there claws, and snappin' their jaws! While in this frenzied state, they also became agitated. Their claws and jaws shredded all of the team's nets, until the researchers discovered that if they poured beer in the water, the beverage tranquilized the buggers! The team went through barrels of beer.
Original Concept Sketch from 1994
After month of stompin' and beatin' the mud, O'Canhee and LaRash
located a hot juicy breeding pair. The two professors got married, too, and set up a Crawligator farm near Beaux Bridge, Louisiana. Crawligator meat became a culinary sensation, and the hides became fashion necessities.
Rosy's favorite recipe for Cawligator Pie:
One pound of "Crawli "(Cawligator), 2 large ripe chopped Tomatoes, 2 finely chopped celery sticks, 1 Onion chopped, one Red Pepper, 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp of Paprica, and 1/2 cup Mayonaise. Combine all ingrediants and place in a pie shell, Bake one hour. Drink beer one hour. Remember, "Eat the Tails, Don't Suck the Heads...They Bite! The End

Well, a Crawligator is, um... See the picture of our "Storyteller" in our Video? He wears a hat and play a fiddle. He's about the size of a PoBoy, but Crawligators come in all sizes, colors and shapes. They are a mix of Crawdad-Alligators, parodies of real things found in swamps, near bayous, in Louisiana. But, they're not swamp monsters, they're fun and crazy swamp critters that just want to have a good time! You might call the Crawligator's music videos, "Singing satires on the results of fouling our American wetlands."
So, Why not join us while we build our production? Watch how we create elements for this project. Come along for a wild ride, as we design and build our "Crawligator" show. Right now you can listen to music videos about the characters that will be in our scripts and see concept art, illustrations like the "Crawligator Town". You are invited to follow along as we build the Crawligator project on The Crawligator Facebook Page .
