The art is worth more than the precious metal! EMAIL US WHY ARE JESS NELSON'S MID CENTURY ART SCULPTURES COLLECTABLE? Recently, several of them sold for 10 times what they cost in the 70s and 80s. There are more reasons art collectors are honing in on Jess' metal sculpts… First, they can be found anywhere! Originally, they were sold in Art Galleries, Fine Jewelry Stores, Gift Shops, Museums and Theme Parks through-out the United States. The sculptures’ original owners carried them all over the world! Thousands were created, but being brittle and small (like other fine art relics), hundreds have been lost or broken, making these reproductions rarer as time goes by! The ones kept in excellent condition, with their original art cards, and have an interesting provenance bring the highest prices. Second, originally they were very affordable! Back when Jess created them, 50 years ago, they sold for between $15 and $30 for the 24k Gold plated pewter ones and $125 to $250 for the Sterling Silver limited edition Endangered Wildlife Series (EWS) sculptures.Third, they are gold and silver. Precious metal, bronze, and pewter objects of art historically have been collected by museums, treasure hunters, and art collectors! Fourth, the original 1970s sculptures are no longer being made and distributed. The distributor, Mineralia of California, is no longer in business. The foundry that cast and plated the pewter 24k gold plated sculptures, Starlight Originals, only produce large contemporary sculptures, today. This company’s early reproductions, including my 70s sculptures, were discontinued because of rising material costs and labor inflation. Demand is rising but the supply is limited! Fifth, the original owners (purchasers) of the sculptures are eliminating their estates and passing them on to descendants. The new owners may want to sell them not realizing the treasure they are holding. They are becoming more available at antique dealers, auction houses (like eBay), and internet marketplaces, making them very accessible! Sixth, the artist is a living renowned sculptor and muralist! Jess Nelson's latest works of art are valued in the thousands (not hundreds) of US $ in today market. Also, Jess can authenticate his own work and document the fakes and forgeries! It is a fact that art is a timeless investment! These jewelry sculptures by Jess have gained in value every year since 1980 and will outlive the artist!
